Prologue (Pt.1)
Once upon a time, in the hidden heart of France, a handsome young prince lived in a beautiful castle.
Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was selfish and unkind.
“Master, it’s time!”
He taxed the village to fill his castle with most beautiful objects
“Oui, maître.”
And his parties with the most beautiful people.
Aria
Oh, how divine
Glamour, music, and magic combine
See the maidens so anxious to shine
Look for a sign that enhances chances
She’ll be his special one
What a display
What a breathtaking, thrilling array
Every prince, every dog has his day
And I’ll sing with passion, gusto, fit to bust
Oh, not a care in the world!
Prologue (Pt.2)
Then one night, an unexpected intruder arrived to the castle, seeking shelter from the bitter storm. As a gift, she offered the prince a single rose.
Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince turned the woman away… But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances… For beauty is found within. When he dismissed her again, the old woman’s outer appearance melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress.
The prince begged for forgiveness, but it was too late. For she had seen that there was no love in his heart.
As punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there.
As day bled into years, the prince and his servants were forgotten by the world, for the enchantress had erased all memory of them from the minds of the people they loved.
But the rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose. If he could learn to love another and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a Beast for all time.
As the years passed, he felt into despair and lost all hope, for who could ever learn to love a Beast?
Belle
[BELLE]
Little town, it’s a quiet village
Every day like the one before
Little town, full of little people
Waking up to say
[ENSEMBLE]
Bonjour! Bonjour!
Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour!
[BELLE]
There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Every morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor, provincial town
[MONSIEUR JEAN, spoken]
Good Morning, Belle!
[BELLE, spoken]
Good morning, Monsieur Jean
Have you lost something again?
[MONSIEUR JEAN, spoken]
Well, I believe I have
Problem is, I’ve—I can’t remember what
Oh well, I’m sure it’ll come to me
Where are you off to?
[BELLE]
To return this book to Père Robert
It’s about two lovers in fair Verona
[MONSIEUR JEAN, spoken]
Sounds boring
[ENSEMBLE]
Look there she goes, that girl is strange, no question
Dazed and distracted, can’t you tell?
Never part of any crowd
‘Cause her head’s up on some cloud
No denying she’s a funny girl that Belle
Bonjour! Good day! How is your family?
Bonjour! Good day! How is your wife?
I need six eggs! That’s too expensive!
[BELLE]
There must be more than this provincial life!
[PERE ROBERT, spoken]
Ahh, if it isn’t the only bookworm in town!
So, where did you run off to this week?
[BELLE, spoken]
Two cities in Northern Italy
I didn’t want to come back
Have you got any new places to go?
[PERE ROBERT, spoken]
I’m afraid not…
But you may re-read any of the old ones that you’d like
[BELLE, spoken]
Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big
[PERE ROBERT, spoken]
Bon voyage!
[ENSEMBLE]
Look there she goes, the girl is so peculiar
I wonder if she’s feeling well
With a dreamy, far-off look
And her nose stuck in a book
What a puzzle to the rest of us is Belle
[BELLE]
Oh, isn’t this amazing?
It’s my favourite part because—you’ll see
Here’s where she meets Prince Charming
But she won’t discover that it’s him ‘til Chapter Three!
[ENSEMBLE]
Now it’s no wonder that her name means “Beauty”
Her looks have got no parallel
But behind that fair facade
I’m afraid she’s rather odd
Very diff’rent from the rest of us
She’s nothing like the rest of us
Yes, diff’rent from the rest of us is Belle!
[GASTON, spoken]
Look at her, LeFou—my future wife
Belle is the most beautiful girl in the village
That makes her the best
[LEFOU, spoken]
But she’s so… well-read!
And you’re so… athletically inclined
[GASTON, spoken]
Yes… But ever since the war, I’ve felt like I’ve been missing something. And she’s the only girl that gives me that sense of—
[LEFOU, spoken]
Mmm… je ne sais quoi?
[GASTON, spoken]
I don’t know what that means
(sung)
Right from the moment when I met her, saw her
I said she’s gorgeous and I fell
Here in town, there’s only she
Who is beautiful as me
So I’m making plans to woo and marry Belle
[ENSEMBLE]
Look there he goes
Isn’t he dreamy?
Monsieur Gaston
Oh, he’s so cute!
Be still, my heart
I’m hardly breathing
He’s such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute!
[WOMAN 1]
Bonjour!
[GASTON]
Pardon
[BELLE]
Good day
[WOMAN 2]
Mais oui!
[WOMAN 3]
You call this bacon?
[WOMAN 4]
What lovely flowers!
[Man 1]
Some cheese
[WOMAN 5]
Ten yards!
[MAN 1]
One pound
[GASTON]
Excuse me
[CHEESE MERCHANT]
I’ll get the knife
[GASTON]
Please let me through!
[WOMAN 6]
This bread
[WOMAN 7]
Those fish
[WOMAN 6]
It’s stale!
[WOMAN 7]
They smell!
[MEN]
Madame’s mistaken
[WOMEN]
Well, maybe so
[BELLE]
There must be more than this provincial life!
[GASTON]
Just watch, I’m going to make Belle my wife!
[ENSEMBLE]
Look there she goes
That girl is strange but special
A most peculiar mademoiselle!
It’s a pity and a sin
She doesn’t quite fit in
‘Cause she really is a funny girl
A beauty but a funny girl
She really is a funny girl
That Belle!
How Does a Moment Last Forever (Music Box)
How does a moment last forever?
How can a story never die?
It is love we must hold onto
Never easy, but we try
Sometimes our happiness is captured
Somehow, a time and place stand still
Love lives on inside our hearts and always will
Belle (Reprise)
[BELLE, spoken]
Can you imagine? Me, the wife of that boorish, brainless…
(sung)
Madame, Gaston
Can’t you just see it?
Madame, Gaston
His little wife, ugh
No, sir! Not me!
I guarantee it
I want much more than this provincial life!
I want adventure in the great wide somewhere
I want it more than I can tell
And for once it might be grand
To have someone understand
I want so much more than they’ve got planned…
Gaston
[LEFOU]
Gosh, it disturbs me to see you Gaston
Looking so down in the dumps
Every guy here’d love to be you, Gaston!
Even when taking your lumps
There’s no man in town as admired as you
You’re everyone’s favorite guy
Everyone’s awed and inspired by you
And it’s not very hard to see why
No one’s slick as Gaston
No one’s quick as Gaston
No one’s neck’s as incredibly thick as Gaston
For there’s no man in town half as manly
[BIMBETTES]
Perfect, a pure paragon!
[LEFOU/MEN]
You can ask any Tom, Dick, or Stanley
And they’ll tell you whose team they’d prefer to be on
Who plays darts like Gaston?
Who breaks hearts like Gaston?
Who’s much more than the sum of his parts like Gaston?
[GASTON]
As a specimen, yes, I’m intimidating!
[ALL]
My, what a guy, that Gaston!
[GASTON]
I needed encouragement
Thank you, LeFou
[LEFOU]
Well, there’s no one as easy to bolster as you!
Too much?
[GASTON]
…Yep
[ALL]
No one fights like Gaston
Douses lights like Gaston
[LEFOU]
In a wrestling match, nobody bites like Gaston
[GASTON]
When I hunt, I sneak up with my quiver
And beasts of the field say a prayer
First, I carefully aim for the liver
Then I shoot from behind
[LEFOU]
Is that fair?
[GASTON]
I don’t care
[ALL]
No one hits like Gaston
Matches wits like Gaston
[LEFOU]
In a spitting match, nobody spits like Gaston
[GASTON]
I’m especially good at expectorating!
[spits]
[ALL]
Ten points for Gaston!
[GASTON]
When I was a lad, I ate four dozen eggs
Every morning to help me get large
And now that I’m grown, I eat five dozen eggs
So I’m roughly the size of a barge!
[LEFOU/MEN]
Who has brains like Gaston?
Entertains like Gaston?
[GASTON]
Who can make up these endless refrains like Gaston?
I use antlers in all of my decorating
[ALL]
Say it again
Who’s a man among men?
Who’s the super success?
Don’t you know? Can’t you guess?
Ask his fans and his five hangers-on
There’s just one guy in town
Who’s got all of it down…
[LEFOU]
And his name’s G-A-S…T…
I believe there’s another T…
It just occurred to me that I’m illiterate
And I’ve never actually had to spell it out loud before…
[ALL]
Gaston!
Be Our Guest
[LUMIÈRE, spoken]
Ma chère Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now, we invite you to relax. Let us pull up a chair, as the dining room proudly presents… your dinner
(sung)
Be our guest! Be our guest
Put our service to the test
Tie your napkin ‘round your neck, cherie
And we’ll provide the rest
Soup du jour
Hot hors d’oeuvres
Why, we only live to serve
Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious
Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes
They can sing, they can dance
After all, Miss, this is France
And a dinner here is never second best
Go on, unfold your menu
Take a glance and then you’ll
Be our guest
Oui, our guest
Be our guest!
Beef ragout
Cheese soufflé
Pie and pudding, en flambé
We’ll prepare and serve with flair
A culinary cabaret!
You’re alone
And you’re scared
But the banquet’s all prepared
No one’s gloomy or complaining
While the flatware’s entertaining
We tell jokes! I do tricks
With my fellow candlesticks!
[ALL]
And it’s all in perfect taste
That you can bet
[LUMIÈRE]
Come on and lift your glass
You’ve won your own free pass
To be our guest
If you’re stressed
It’s fine dining we suggest
Be our guest!
[ALL]
Be our guest! Be our guest!
[LUMIÈRE]
Life is so unnerving
For a servant who’s not serving
He’s not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful
—Eh, Cogsworth?
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Too long, we’ve been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills
Most days, we just lay around the castle
Flabby, fat, and lazy
You walked in and oops-a-daisy
[MRS. POTTS]
It’s a guest! It’s a guest!
Sake’s alive, well I’ll be blessed!
Wine’s been poured and thank the Lord
I’ve had the napkins freshly pressed
With dessert, she’ll want tea
And my dear, that’s fine with me
While the cups do their soft-shoein’
I’ll be bubbling, I’ll be brewing
I’ll get warm, piping hot
Heaven’s sakes! Is that a spot?
Clean it up! We want the company impressed!
We’ve got a lot to do
Is it one lump or two?
For you, our guest!
[ALL]
She’s our guest!
[MRS. POTTS]
She’s our guest!
[ALL]
She’s our guest!
[ALL]
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Our command is your request
It’s been years since we’ve had anybody here
And we’re obsessed
[LUMIÈRE & ALL]
With your meal, with your ease
Yes, indeed, we aim to please
While the candlelight’s still glowing
Let us help you, we’ll keep going
Course by course, one by one
‘Til you shout, “Enough! I’m done!”
Then we’ll sing you off to sleep as you digest
Tonight, you’ll prop your feet up
But for now, let’s eat up
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Please, be our guest!
Days in the Sun
[PRINCE]
Days in the sun
When my life has barely began
Not until my whole life is done
Will I ever leave you
[MAESTRO CADENZA]
Will I tremble again
To my dear one’s gorgeous refrain?
[LUMIÈRE & PLUMETTE]
Will you now forever remain
Out of reach of my arms?
[MRS. POTTS]
All those days in the sun
What I’d give to relive just one
Undo what’s done
And bring back the light
[MADAME DE GARDEROBE]
Oh, I could sing
Of the pain these dark days bring
The spell we’re under
Still, it’s the wonder of us I sing of tonight
[BELLE]
How in the midst of all this sorrow
Can so much hope and love endure
I was innocent and certain
Now I’m wiser but unsure
[GARDEROBE] Days in the pastAll those precious daysCouldn’t last Oh, hold me closer! |
[BELLE] I can’t go back into my childhood One that my father made secure I can feel a change in me I’m stronger now, but still not free |
[ALL EXCEPT BELLE AND THE BEAST ]
Days in the sun will return
We must believe as lovers do
That days in the sun
Will come shining through
Something There
[BELLE]
There’s something sweet, and almost kind
But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined
And now he’s dear, and so unsure
I wonder why I didn’t see it there before
[BEAST]
She glanced this way, I thought I saw
And when we touched, she didn’t shudder at my paw
No, it can’t be, I’ll just ignore
But then, she’s never looked at me that way before
[BELLE]
New, and a bit alarming
Who’d have ever thought that this could be?
True, that he’s no Prince Charming
But there’s something in him that I simply didn’t see
[PLUMETTE]
Well, who’d have thought?
[MRS. POTTS]
Well, bless my soul!
[COGSWORTH]
Well, who’d have known?
[LUMIÈRE]
Well, who indeed? And who’d have guessed
They’d come together on their own?
[MRS. POTTS]
It’s so peculiar! Wait and see!
[ENSEMBLE]
We’ll wait and see, a few days more
There may be something there that wasn’t there before
[COGSWORTH]
And here’s a thought
Perhaps there’s something there that wasn’t there before
[CHIP, spoken]
What, Mama?
[MRS. POTTS]
There may be something there that wasn’t there before
[CHIP, spoken]
What is it? What’s there?
[MRS. POTTS, spoken]
I’ll tell you when you’re older
[CHIP, spoken]
Okay, I’m older!
[MRS. POTTS, spoken]
Chip! Oh, you are a…
How Does a Moment Last Forever (Montmartre)
This is the Paris of my childhood
These were the borders of my life
In this crumbling, dusty attic
Where an artist loved his wife
Easy to remember, harder to move on
Knowing the Paris of my childhood is gone
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Evermore
I was the one who had it all
I was the master of my fate
I never needed anybody in my life
I learned the truth too late
I’ll never shake away the pain
I close my eyes but she’s still there
I let her steal into my melancholy heart
It’s more than I can bear
Now I know she’ll never leave me
Even as she runs away
She will still torment me
Calm me, hurt me
Move me, come what may
Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I’ll fool myself, she’ll walk right in
And be with me for evermore
I rage against the trials of love
I curse the fading of the light
Though she’s already flown so far beyond my reach
She’s never out of sight
Now I know she’ll never leave me
Even as she fades from view
She will still inspire me
Be a part of everything I do
Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I’ll fool myself, she’ll walk right in
And as the long, long nights begin
I’ll think of all that might have been
Waiting here for evermore
The Mog Song
[ENSEMBLE]
We’re not safe until he’s dead
He’ll come stalking us at night
Set to sacrifice our children
To his monstrous appetite
He’ll wreak havoc on our village
If we let him wander free
[GASTON]
So it’s time to take some action, boys
It’s time to follow me!
Through the mist, through the wood
Through the darkness and the shadows
It’s a nightmare, but it’s one exciting ride
Say a prayer, then we’re there
At the drawbridge of a castle
And there’s something truly terrible inside
It’s a beast!
He’s got fangs, razor-sharp ones!
Massive paws, killer claws for the feast
Hear him roar! See him foam!
But we’re not coming home
‘Til he’s dead!
Good and dead!
[GASTON, ENSEMBLE]
Kill the Beast!
[ENSEMBLE]
Light your torch, mount your horse
[GASTON]
Screw your courage to the sticking place
[ENSEMBLE]
We’re counting on Gaston to lead the way
[GASTON]
Call it war, call it threat
You can bet they all will follow
For in times like this, they’ll do just as I say
[LEFOU]
There’s a beast running wild, there’s no question
But I fear the wrong monster’s released
[ENSEMBLE]
Sally forth! Tally ho!
Grab your sword! Grab your bow!
Praise the Lord and here we go!
We don’t like what we don’t understand
In fact, it scares us
And this monster is mysterious at least
Bring your guns, bring your knives
Save your children and your wives
We’ll save our village and our lives
We’ll kill the Beast!
Hearts ablaze, banners high
We go marching into battle
Unafraid although the danger’s just increased
Raise the flag, sing the song
Here we come, we’re fifty strong
And fifty Frenchmen can’t be wrong
Let’s kill the Beast!
Kill the Beast!
Kill the Beast!
Beauty and the Beast (Finale)
[MADAME DE GARDEROBE]

Winter turns to spring
Famine turns to feast
Nature points the way
Nothing left to say

How Does a Moment Last Forever
How does a moment last forever?
How can a story never die?
It is love we must hold on to
Never easy, but we try
Sometimes our happiness is captured
Somehow, our time and place stand still
Love lives on inside our hearts and always will
Minutes turn to hours, days to years and gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
Maybe some moments weren’t so perfect
Maybe some memories not so sweet
But we have to know some bad times
Or are lives are incomplete
Then when the shadows overtake us
Just when we feel all hope is gone
We’ll hear our song and know once more
Our love lives on
How does a moment last forever?
How does our happiness endure?
Through the darkest of our troubles
Love is beauty, love is pure
Love pays no mind to desolation
It flows like a river through the soul
Protects, covers, and perseveres
And makes us whole
Minutes turn to hours, days to years and gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
That’s how a moment lasts forever:
When our song lives on

Tune as old as song, oh
